At a Punjab National Bank (PNB) currency vault in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a shocking cash scam has been discovered. Counterfeit notes are said to have taken the place of currency notes worth Rs 7.4 crore.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to look into the matter, and police have filed a formal complaint against bank officials and private persons. Arun Kumar Chaubey, a PNB nodal officer, filed a complaint, which led to the case being registered at the Sadar police station.
Senior divisional manager Ravi Kumar and currency chest managers Sushil Sharma and Amit Kumar are listed as the main suspects in the FIR. A cash remittance submitted to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 10 was found to be short by Rs 4.36 lakh, which led to the discovery of the disparity.
The RBI has subsequently ordered a detailed audit of the currency chest. The final tally of fake currency is still being verified as counting continues
