The Reserve Bank of India has announced to issue Rs10 denomination
banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, bearing the signature of
Dr. Urjit R. Patel, Governor, RBI.
The new denomination has motif of Sun Temple, Konark on the reverse,
depicting the country’s cultural heritage. The base colour of the note
is Chocolate Brown. The dimension of the banknote will be 63 mm x 123
mm.
The salient features of Rs10 denomination banknote are as under:
Obverse (Front)
1. See through register with denominational numeral 10,
2. Denominational numeral ‘Bharat’ in Devnagari,
3. Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre,
4. Guarantee Clause, Governor’s signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem towards right of Mahatma Gandhi portrait,
5. Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right,
6. Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype (10) watermarks,
7. Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side.
Reverse (Back)
1. Year of printing of the note on the left,
2. Swachh Bharat logo with slogan,
3. Language panel,
4. Motif of Sun Temple, Konark,
5. Denominational numeral in Devnagari.
This is how the new Rs 10 note will be different from the previous one:
1. The major difference is that the new Rs 10 note will be in chocolate brown in colour instead of the previous combination of orange and pink.
2. The new Rs 10 notes will be in same height of 63 mm but the width will be 123 mm — slightly lesser than the existing width of 137 mm.
3. On the reverse, the new note will carry a motif of the Konark Sun Temple. The existing Rs 10-note carries the image of Indian fauna — rhinoceros, elephant and tiger.
4. The year of printing of the note (on the left) and Swachh Bharat logo will also be seen at the back.
5. The front of new Rs 10 note has other designs and geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme which are see-through register with denominational numeral 10, Rs 10 written also in Devanagari script and a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre.
6. Guarantee Clause, RBI Governor's signature and Ashoka Pillar will also be at the front of the note.
